When a person is baptised the Holy Spirit brings them into a relationship with Jesus Christ and his church. Baptism is the beginning of a lifelong journey with Jesus that he wants to last forever.
At the baptism of a young child parents or carers and godparents publicly declare they are committed followers of Jesus Christ, who acknowledge him as their Lord and Saviour.
At the baptism parents or carers also promise to foster the child's relationship with Jesus Christ.
In our church, baptism happens in the context of the regular worship service.
In the baptism service we pray for the child and we promise to encourage and support families in nurturing and growing their children's relationship with Jesus Christ.
What's expected of parents or carers who want their child baptised?
Since the Christian journey is one of walking together, connecting with others in a local church has always been part of the baptismal journey.
We expect parents or carers who are seeking to have a child baptised to become active in worship. This is where God strengthens and encourages a person's relationship with Jesus Christ.
Parents or carers who are not worshipping at Mawson Lakes Community Church are encouraged to set aside 4 evenings when either the pastor or a member of the church is able to come to their home to explore who Jesus is and what it means to believe in Him.
To explore who Jesus is, parents or carers don't have to have an prior knowledge of the Bible or understanding of the Christian faith.
If you don't own a Bible, we will give you one free.
In this journey of exploration we welcome any questions that a parent or carer may have about God, Jesus, Christianity and the church.
If you would like to explore Jesus or have a chat about anything else please contact Pastor Stephen who would love to meet with you.
